Why Starlink targets short-term customers with rented internet kits

Elon Musk’s Starlink is a setellite internet that has become popular among the kenyan internet consumers. This high end satellite internet can be accessed even in the most remote areas in the country. It satellite was launched in 24th May 2019 and the services have been available in kenya since July 2023.

Following an autcry in social media that starlink kit is very expensive, the company owned by billionaire and owner of X Elon Musk announced that one can rent the kit for as low as kes 1,950 per Month or consider purchasing the kit for only ksh 45,500.

With this new model, Starlink services can easily be accessed by many kenyans who previously had an issue with the high upfront cost ranging from ksh 29,000 to Kes 74,000 to purchase the hardware.

Starlink will be highly competing with Safaricom and Airtel ke which has currently dominated the local market. However, Starlink has got more advantage over the two as it can be used even in the remote areas where the two has not installed booster.
